Town Status
Reston Citizens Association Board members
and volunteers are circulating petitions for Reston residents to sign to ask the legislature of the Commonwealth of Virginia to authorize a referendum to vote on whether Reston should be incorporated as a town.
Anyone interested in circulating a petition on their own can download one
HERE. (instructions are on the form).
The actual wording of the petition is as follows:
"We the qualified voters of Reston (defined as Small Tax District #5) do hereby petition that the legislature of the Commonwealth of Virginia authorize a referendum to enable the qualified voters of Reston to vote on whether Reston should become incorporated as a town."
Unlike our neighbors, the Towns of Herndon and Vienna, Reston is not incorporated as a political entity and has no official voice on major issues affecting it. Based on Reston’s founding principles and previous studies, RCA supports a governance plan that will: 1.
Allow Reston to guide its own future; 2. Provide an official voice for Reston on major issues; and 3. Provide new and existing community services and facilities efficiently.
A slide presentation, brochures and other information
on Reston becoming a town are
available HERE.
